Our Process

All custom foot orthotics manufactured in our own in-house orthotic manufacturing site by your Certified Canadian Pedorthist. This means your orthotics will be designed and manufactured by the very same professional who has made detailed records of your specific needs and biomechanics. Our manufacturing technique involves both computerized and manual hands-on components.

To begin the orthotic manufacturing process, we first need to capture a 3D model of your feet so we can build the orthotic directly on top of your foot shape. The casting technique we choose are either a plaster slipper cast, semi-weight bearing foam box impression, or laser scan. Regardless of which technique we choose, the main goal when we cast your feet is to capture a true 3 dimensional anatomical model of your feet. All extended health insurance providers require that your orthotics are made this way. We do not create orthotics from 2D pressure scans or ink foot prints alone.

Your Pedorthist or footcare professional must have knowledge and experience in capturing a 3D image of your feet in the desired biomechanical position. This is important due to that fact that an ill fitting orthotic will not only be uncomfortable, the orthotic will not accurately support the target areas of your feet that need correction. This position varies between different people and foot types. The fundamental goal of this step is to capture your foot in a way that reduces the excess stress and strain thought to be associated with your pain or disorder.  This is why it is important to have a full biomechanical assessment conducted by a Certified Canadian Pedorthist so that your foot can be correctly casted.

Combining the latest technology in automated orthotic manufacturing with traditional manual hands on techniques, your custom foot orthotics are meticulously crafted to the specifications set out by your Pedorthist. A strict quality inspection finalizes the process and ensures your orthotics meet the highest quality industry standards.

In recent years, OrthoMetrix transformed its traditional, hands-on only manufacturing methods to more advanced and sophisticated automated computerized methods. These methods achieve accuracy and precision values only capable through computerized methods. These technologies award numerous benefits to our patients by producing higher quality orthotics consistently by automating complex repetitive steps and allowing more time and attention to steps that are best done through human interaction. Our systems can replicate the same pair of orthotics with 100% accuracy, everytime.

Although we utilize dynamic pressure analysis as a highly effective assessment tool, we do not and will never create orthotics from 2D pressure scans alone as this is not representative of the anatomical shape of your feet. A high quality and accurate orthotic device means it has been crafted directly from a 3 dimensional mold of your feet. As a consumer, we understand the potential confusion of all the different types of orthotics and individuals who claim to dispense custom made orthotics. At OrthoMetrix, we follow best practice guidelines as outlined by our governing body, The College of Pedorthics Canada.

Ensuring a Perfect Fit

To ensure a perfect fit between your foot and your custom foot orthotic, OrthoMetrix utilizes today's latest software that allows us to visually inspect areas that are hidden when your foot is on top of the orthotic. This is especially important when we need to accommodate for callousing, ulceration or help with heel and arch pain since these areas are hidden when standing on top of an orthotic. Your feedback as to how the orthotic feels against your foot also gives us crucial information of fit quality.

Specific to Your Needs

This video showcases our ability to add very specific modifications to an orthotic. No foot is the same. Even your left and right foot are slightly different. Your custom foot orthotics should reflect this fact. We have the capability of creating custom foot orthotics of infinite levels of complexity. This video showcases some modifications we use to address heel pain and ball of the foot pain.
