DANNY TSO, B.Sc(Kin), C.Ped(C)
FOUNDER | CERTIFIED CANADIAN PEDORTHIST

Danny is a board Certified Canadian Pedorthist, specializing in the use of orthotics, bracing, and footwear to treat many foot and lower extremity problems. Born in Vancouver, BC, Danny graduated from Simon Fraser University with a major in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology. Through his practicum placement at Kintec Orthotics in 2007, Danny discovered his passion for helping others through the highly specialized field of pedorthics. Under the supervision of experienced Certified Canadian Pedorthists, Danny developed fundamental clinical and technical skills necessary to properly conduct foot and lower extremity biomechanical analysis, clinical evaluation, orthotic prescription, manufacturing, and modification that he uses every day to treat patients. Danny achieved his Certified Canadian Pedorthist (C.Ped(C)) designation in November of 2010 and founded OrthoMetrix Inc. in 2012.

Treatment Philosophy

Danny’s approach to treatment is to first learn about you, your lifestyle and your biomechanics. This involves a detailed medical history and screening, static weight bearing and non-weight bearing analysis, dynamic gait assessment, and functional testing. This information is then combined into a logical and comprehensive treatment plan involving the use of orthotics, footwear, exercises, or if necessary, a referral to another healthcare provider, all to address your unique needs. Education is key, so Danny takes time to give you a clear understanding of the underlying factors, empowering you with the knowledge to help yourself. A detailed summary report is sent to your doctor and if required direct discussion about your issues and what we can do as a healthcare team to resolve your problem.

Collaborative care is fundamental to Danny's principles of treatment. Establishing and maintaining a network of family physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, physical therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, massage therapists, and other health professionals allows Danny to ensure his patients receive the care they need even when this need is outside the pedorthic scope of practice. Danny is proud to announce his collaborations with:
AR OT Community Rehabilitation
Common problems Danny sees on a day-to-day basis are:
Plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, metatarsalgia, hallux valgus, osteoarthritis, patellofemoral pain syndrome, achilles tendonitis/osis, tibialis posterior dysfunction,medial/lateral compartment osteoarthritis, lower back pain, bursitis, hip pointer syndrome and many other problems related to foot and lower extremity misalignment.

Early Life
Danny was exposed to basic manufacturing processes at an early age as his father is a skilled goldsmith, working with his hands his entire life meticulously in the art of jewellery creation. Many of the machinery, techniques, and processes are similar to those in the field of orthotic manufacturing. Danny ambitiously combined the knowledge and experience he had acquired from his father with the skills he had developed as a pedorthist to build his own orthotic manufacturing facility. Inherent in Danny's core interests is a fascination with new technologies and its application in a useful and meaningful manner to help others. An affinity to hands-on practical activities keeps Danny driven to create functional and aesthetically pleasing products for people to benefit and enjoy. As a result, Danny ensures his clients receive the highest level of pedorthic care, backed by a lifetime of experience, enjoyment, and deep appreciation for design and manufacturing.

The Difference
Danny sets himself and OrthoMetrix apart by being of the few custom foot orthotic providers in the lower mainland equipped with a full in-house custom orthotic manufacturing site. Rather than sending his patient's orders to an external lab, he directs a team of technicians to build his patient's devices in his own custom orthotic manufacturing site, giving Danny complete control and oversight over the final result. Danny has in the past has used external labs. If he were to compare, he firmly believes treatment outcomes are highest when you see a provider who has absolute control over the construction of your orthotics. By equipping his laboratory with computerized automated CAD/CAM systems, many steps that were performed manually before through traditional methods can now be simplified and streamlined, thus maximizing the overall quality of our products. Direct access to these systems allows Danny greater flexibility to support his patients in times of greater need, such as when modification or remaking an orthotic device is necessary. Overall, Danny is with you from start to finish, overseeing every single step of your treatment and ensuring high quality of care, consistently.
Danny is 100% fully accountable for your custom foot orthotics.

Another key differentiating factor about Danny lies in a unique opportunity he had practicing both as a Kinesiology and Pedorthist. Danny collaborated with the talented team of physical and occupational therapists at AR OT Rehabilitation, providing community based rehabilitation services to individuals injured in motor vehicle and workplace incidents. The most unique aspect of this experience is Danny was able to practice both as a kinesiologist and pedorthist, designing not only his clients active rehabilitation programs but also, when indicated, their custom foot orthotics and footwear. Therefore the majority of Danny's referred clients primarily had foot and lower extremity biomechanical disorders/fractures. This was an incredibly fulfilling experience as he directly observed and helped his clients in their initial phases of injury recover back to pre-injury condition all the while using custom orthotics that Danny had designed and manufactured specifically for their situation.
